Collaboration at its best can be experienced at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens’ First Annual “Earth Days at the Gardens” on Saturday, April 19th and Monday, April 21st. During this 3-day event visitors will explore the life, art and gardens of Ann Weaver Norton, who came to live in West Palm Beach, Florida. Norton recognized the significance the ANSG’s vital green space would have on a developing West Palm Beach. It was her specific intention that her work, studio, and garden environment be left for the enjoyment and education of the community and that the gardens remain a mini-ecosystem where the plants, animals and birds could continue to cultivate.
Families and school groups will begin their Earth Day experience by applying for an Earth Day Passport. Visitors will travel throughout the garden to various hands-on exploration stations hosted by cultural and environmental organizations in Palm Beach County. After a child visits a station they will receive a sticker to mark the station they traveled to and the activity they completed. The stations offer hands-on exploration in environmental science, preservation, conservation and environmental art. Visitors will have fun as they learn ways to conserve, preserve, recycle, and go green. Activities include “Attracting Wildlife to Your Garden”, “Plants From the Time of the Dinosaurs”, “Pond Dipping”, “Turning Waste Into Wonder” , “Fossil Dig and Touch Station”, “Recycling Game”, “Palm Planting” and more. Visitors will have the opportunity to view many of Ann’s artworks, Norton’s art studio, and her nine monumental sculptures in a magnificent garden on a beautiful 1.7 acre preserve with more then 300 species of plants.
